Mid-South Community College’s Beta Epsilon Psi Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society inducted 32 new members during its fall semester ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 29.
With the second consecutive large induction class, Beta Epsilon Psi earned a Level 5 Pinnacle Award for increasing its membership by 61 percent over 2011. The Pinnacle Award recognizes chapters and regions for successfully enhancing recruitment and orientation strategies.
At Thursday’s ceremony, MSCC’s chapter Pat Crume from Jericho, chapter vice president, provided the welcome and address to new members, and Secretary Nettie Parr from Marion introduced continuing members and advisors.
Chapter Treasurer Andrea Robinson from West Memphis discussed the Phi Theta Kappa symbols, and President Richard Walker from Marion administered the oath of membership. Crume introduced the induction class to the audience, and Walker provided closing remarks.

English instructor Michelle McMillen serves as Phi Theta Kappa advisor, and History instructor Mark McClellan serves as co-advisor.
Chartered in the spring of 1997, MSCC’s chapter includes service-oriented students with a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher in at least 12 hours of course work leading to an associate degree.
MSCC’s Phi Theta Kappa members participate in a variety of projects to benefit the campus and the community. The most recent effort includes a Clothe-A-Kid drive to benefit needy students at Weaver Elementary School.
Phi Theta Kappa has recognized two year college scholars since 1918 and is the only internationally-acclaimed honor society serving institutions with associate degree programs. The organization is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 1.3 million members and 1,100 chapters located in the United States, U.S. territories, Canada, Germany, Japan, and South America.
The three ideals that band PTK members together are wisdom, aspiration, and purity.
