Greyhounds Extend Win Streak; Lady Greyhounds Fall to Division I Foe

CONWAY – Mid-South Community College’s Greyhounds rolled to a 95-77 victory over Central Baptist College Tuesday night to increase their early-season winning streak to four games.

The Greyhounds dominated the game defensively, and head coach Chris Parker said that was the difference maker. In a previous meeting with CBC, MSCC struggled to rein in the hot-shooting Mustangs despite an 86-81 home victory.

“We did a much better job defensively,” Parker said. “Our defense really helped our offense as we got several transition baskets after steals. That was the main difference in the game.”

The Greyhounds led 51-37 at halftime and never let off of the gas. MSCC opened the second half on an 8-0 run and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.

The win improves the Greyhounds to 4-4 on the year, and Parker said he is pleased with the way the team is playing.

“We feel good about the direction we are headed,” Parker said. “But we realize we have a long way to go to get where we want to be. Small steps now will hopefully lead to a long journey later.”

The Greyhounds will hit the road again Thursday night to take on Division I Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis. The Saluqis are 3-1 on the season. Tipoff is set for 7:30.

Lady Greyhounds

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. – MSCC’s Lady Greyhounds hit the road Tuesday night looking to extend their two-game winning streak but came up short in an 89-44 loss to Division I Three Rivers College.

Coach Kim Turner said her team played well in spite of a 10-day layoff and a worthy opponent.

“We played a great team and put up a good fight,” she said. “We played hard the whole game without giving up no matter what the score was.”

Laquaris Harris led the scoring effort for the Lady Greyhounds with 19 points. Brittney King followed with eight points, and Arica Wallace contributed six.

The loss drops MSCC to 2-4 on the season. The Lady Greyhounds will be back in action Thursday night as they travel to take on Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis.

MSCC will look to get back in the win column, and to do so, it will have to focus on two things, Turner said: “Organization and discipline.”

Tipoff for the Lady Greyhounds’ game on Thursday is set for 5:30 p.m.
