Literacy Council at MSCC Sets Tutor Training for April 20

The Literacy Council of Crittenden County at Mid-South Community College will conduct a free Tutor Training Workshop on Saturday, April 20, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at First Christian Church (1015 Balfour St., West Memphis). Light snacks will be provided for participants interested in volunteering their time and talents to help adults who are not functionally literate.

Prospective tutors must have a high school diploma (or equivalent) and must be 18 years of age or older. Good reading skills are also important. Previous teaching experience, while helpful, is not necessary.

Early Registration for Summer, Fall 2013 Begins for Current MSCC Students

Early advising and registration for Mid-South Community College’s summer and fall 2013 terms will begin Monday, April 15, and continue through Thursday, April 25, for current MSCC students.

Summer classes, which will meet Monday-Thursday, are scheduled to begin on Monday, June 3, and conclude on Wednesday, July 17. The campus will be closed on Fridays in June and July. Fall classes are scheduled to begin on Monday, Aug. 19.

MSCC to Host Manufacturing Institute Education Council Meeting

         The Manufacturing Institute’s Education Council will convene at Mid-South Community College on Thursday, April 11, for its semiannual meeting. This will mark the second time the group has met outside of Washington, D.C.
         “We’re excited and honored to host this prestigious event,” said MSCC President Dr. Glen Fenter, a charter member of the Council and the lone representative from Arkansas. “We’re setting a precedent for a community college to host this meeting and are looking forward to the opportunity.”
