MSCC Hosts Counselor Appreciation Day

Guidance counselors from Crittenden and Shelby counties gathered at Mid-South Community College recently to tour the campus, meet with instructors and staff, and learn about cutting-edge educational opportunities.

“We’re going to share a lot of information with you in a very short period of time, but we want you
to remember one thing,” said MSCC President Dr. Glen Fenter in his welcome. “There’s not a better place on the planet for your students than Mid-South Community College.”

“Nobody’s going to care more about your students, and nobody’s going to work harder to help them to succeed. Nobody’s going to love them more, coach them more, or be more excited when they are successful than we are.”

Counselors from Marion Junior and Senior High Schools, West Memphis, Earle, Raleigh Egypt, Booker T. Washington, Kingsbury, (Memphis) Central, Memphis Academy of Health Sciences, Trezevant Career and Technology Center, and Sheffield high schools participated in the event.

Some were very familiar with the West Memphis campus while others were experiencing it for the first time. Counselors who participated in a post-event evaluation expressed universal approval of the event.

“This was my first time visiting your campus; it was very informative and enlightening,” said one of the participants. “This was my first visit, but it will NOT be my last!” said another. “I have told everyone I have met about the opportunities available at MSCC.”

“I was very impressed with your campus,” added a third respondent. “We will be recommending students to your program.”

Counselors also praised MSCC employees for their friendliness and spoke highly of the campus in general. All respondents said they would participate in Counselor Appreciation Day again and would recommend it to colleagues.
