MSCC Earns Second “Military Friendly” Rating from Magazine

Mid-South Community College has been selected – for the second time – as a Top Military-Friendly College by “Military Advanced Education,” a magazine for service members and veterans seeking to access educational benefits.

“It is with great pleasure that I congratulate your entire faculty and staff for their efforts,” wrote Glenn R. Berlin, MAE Associate Publisher in a laudatory email. “No school is more dedicated to promoting quality educational programs that serve all branches of our Armed Services and I am proud to be able to work with you….”

“Military Advanced Education conferred with ESO’s from all of the branches of our military to come up with a set of criteria for inclusion in The Guide that set the bar higher this year than in any year since we began publishing The Guide,” Berlin added.

MSCC is the only two-year college in Arkansas and one of only three state institutions included in the KMI Media’s “2012 Guide to America’s Top Military-Friendly Colleges & Universities.” Less than 300 colleges across the country earned the military-friendly designation for the current year. MSCC also received MAE recognition in 2010.

“We consider it an honor and a privilege to play a part in the continued success of our military veterans and their families, so we are humbled by this latest acknowledgement of our efforts,” said Dr. Glen Fenter, MSCC president. “The men and women who serve our country deserve our very best effort because they have given us theirs.”

“MSCC has a long-standing commitment to provide quality educational programs and student support services to military service members,” added Dr. Barbara Baxter, MSCC Executive Vice President. “Our college recognizes their unique learning needs, and we are dedicated to assisting them in their efforts to achieve academic success.”

The college works with approximately 100 students who have ties to the U.S. military.

“We provide one-on-one attention and unparalleled student support services, including free academic coaching,” said Jeremy Reece, MSCC Director of Enrollment Services. “We offer cutting-edge programs like aviation maintenance, machining, and renewable energy technology, as well as a wide array of allied health programs on our campus to give servicemen and women some viable career options.”

“Our general education program is also very successful with our students transferring credits to approximately 140 top colleges and universities across the United States, and that number is growing almost every semester.”

In addition to recognition from Advanced Military Education, Mid-South has been named to G.I. Jobs’ Military Friendly School list in two of the last three years.

According to that publication, MSCC is among the top 15 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools which are doing the most to embrace America’s veterans as students.
