“We’re really excited about the number and quality of companies, agencies, and schools that have registered to come to our campus for our first fall Career Fair,” said event organizer Janice Coleman, ASU Mid-South Career Services coordinator. “This event is a great opportunity to bring the community together for an activity that benefits both the employers and potential employees.”

“Employers are always looking for skilled and qualified applicants, and the Fair gives them the chance to meet people who are ready, willing, able, and qualified. People seeking employment have a one-stop the opportunity to talk with representatives from many different companies.”

Coleman said the college is focusing on companies that have immediate hiring needs. She expects some of the participants to conduct interviews during the fair, so job seekers should come ready to put their best feet forward. Appearance, greeting, and follow-up are important aspects of a successful job fair experience, and professional dress is a must.

“You should look professional and make a good impression by dressing as you would for a formal interview,” she pointed out.

While at the Career Fair, job seekers should greet recruiters with a firm handshake, make eye contact, and smile. They should also bring multiple copies a high-quality resume.

“The resume is the best way to market yourself; it’s the first opportunity for an employer to meet you,” Coleman pointed out. “It should be error free, correct, and an accurate reflection of your skills and qualifications.”

Maintaining contact with prospective employers is also an important part of the process. Job seekers should follow up with a letter expressing their ongoing interest in the company and in what they have to offer. Letters should be mailed no later than four days after the event.
