MSCC Sets Summer Registration for Tuesday, May 28

For students willing to give up sun burning for learning this summer, Mid-South Community College is offering nearly 160 academically-challenging and career-building classes and labs beginning Monday, June 3.

Registration for MSCC’s summer classes will be Tuesday, May 28, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 5-6:30 p.m. in the Donald W. Reynolds Center for Educational Excellence on the South Campus. The College is located at 2000 West Broadway in West Memphis.

MSCC courses include everything from general education “basics” like General Biology and Principles of Accounting to technology-based career preparation offerings like Advanced CNC Setup and Fundamentals of Welding. The full summer schedule can be seen on the College’s website at www.midsouthcc.edu.

Most of the summer courses will be presented in the traditional classroom setting, but several will include online and hybrid formats.

Career Prep, Introduction to Business, Principles of Accounting I and II, Computer Fundamentals, Document Processing, Health and Safety, World Literature II, and IT Principles/Practices are available online. To be eligible to enroll on online classes, students must have a minimum high school or college grade-point average of 2.5, word processing and email skills, and access to the Internet.

Arkansas History, College Algebra, Computer Fundamentals, Concepts of Physical Activity, Electro-Fluid Power Systems, Human Development, Introduction to Theater, Math for Teachers II, Oral Communication, Overview of the NEC Code, U.S. History Before 1877, and U.S. History After 1877 are available in a 50-50 mix of classroom and online work.

These hybrid courses combine the best of two formats: face-to-face interaction and support in a traditional classroom as well as the flexibility of completing a substantial part of a course on-line.

Traditional day classes will generally meet Monday-Thursday, and no classes will be held on Friday, assuring that all students will have a series of three-day weekends during the summer. Traditional evening classes will generally meet Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The college will be closed on Fridays through July 26.

Mid-South makes it easy for students to attend college. Staff and faculty lead students and parents through every step of the higher education process. MSCC takes the mystery out of financial assistance, the application process, and course scheduling and selection.

Financial aid and scholarship information is available for those who qualify. Call 733-6729 for more information.

First-time students should bring high school transcripts and placement test scores (COMPASS/ACT/SAT/ASSET). Students without scores may take the COMPASS exam at MSCC on Tuesday, May 21, at 9 a.m., 1 p.m., or 5 p.m., or on Tuesday, May 28, 9 a.m., 1 p.m., or 5 p.m.

The exam fee is $10 and may be paid at the Cashier’s Window in the Reynolds Center. A photo ID is required to take the exam. Students are allowed to bring/use graphing calculators.
