Greyhound 5K Offering $10 Registration for HS, MSCC Students

Students at Mid-South Community College and area high schools can register for the Second Annual Greyhound 5k Run/Walk for half price between now and Sept. 20.

For the next month, students have the opportunity to sign up for the race for only $10. Registration forms cards for Mid-South students are available at the Student Life front desk in the Reynolds Center on MSCC’s South Campus, and cards for high school students will be available at their schools.

Online registration for all participants is available at http://greyhound5k.racesonline.com. All registrants will receive a technical running shirt and will be able to enjoy post-race food and soft drinks.

The regular registration fee for the race is $20 and remains in effect until Sept. 29. The cost climbs to $25 beginning Sept. 30.

The fund-raising event will be held on the MSCC campus, 2000 West Broadway in West Memphis, on Saturday, Oct. 5, beginning at 9 a.m. More than 50 runners/walkers have already signed up to participate.

Proceeds from the run/walk will go the MSCC Booster Club to support scholarships for Greyhound athletes.

Children’s activities and a post-race celebration are also in the planning stages, as are random drawings for prizes. The College has scheduled a 400-meter “Pup Dash” for youngsters and has made arrangements for an inflatables playground as well (weather permitting). The “Pup Dash” entry fee is $10.

The 3.1-mile walk-run, which drew 396 registrants from 34 cities and towns from three states last year, will feature a new route that will highlight the MSCC campus and take runners through the neighborhood west of the West Memphis Country Club.

The 5k will begin and end at the College’s $9 million Marion Berry Renewable Energy Center.
Post-race events will include live music by the New Snearly Ranch Boys, food, and displays by local vendors who will feature products/services.

Southland Park Gaming & Racing continues as the event’s Title Sponsor, and Lenny’s Sub Shop returns as the Food Sponsor.

Evolve Bank and Trust has joined the effort as a Platinum Sponsor, and Gold Sponsors include Flash Market and Steele-Guiltner Tire Center. The list of Silver Sponsors features AirPro, Arkansas Distributing Company, Barton Powersports, Comfort Suites, Fidelity Insurance, Fidelity National Bank, First Community Bank of Eastern Arkansas, The Fogleman Firm, Holly Chevrolet, Monster Energy, Quality Flooring, Schneider International, and Southern Pipe.

Acme Pest Control, CareerPro Drug Screening, and BBA Solutions (bookstore at MSCC) are also supporting the event.

The College has again enlisted the aid of Start 2 Finish Event Management of Memphis to coordinate the race. S2F is considered one of the premier health-oriented event management companies in the region. The company will provide chip timing and other top-of-the-line technology including touch-screen kiosks so participants can look up their time at the end of the race, live video feed of the finish line activities, and flat-screen TV monitors scrolling up-to-the-minute race results.
